After Further Review: Spieth's (Literally) Scary Good

Each week, GolfChannel.com takes a look back at the week in golf. In this edition of After Further Review, our writers weigh in on Jordan Spieth's scary-good play, Jimmy Walker's win in San Antonio and Lydia Ko's consistency.

It was trendy to lump Jordan Spieth in with the rest of his uber-talented 20-something brethren. There’s only one difference: He’s better. A lot better.

After winning his hometown event, after keeping a red-hot Spieth at bay down the stretch, Jimmy Walker exhaled and said, “Holy cow. I’m going to have nightmares about that guy.”

Spieth isn’t particularly long, and he doesn’t always hit it straight, but he’s insanely competitive and he has an uncanny ability to get the ball in the cup. He plays to win, and Walker is right – that baby-faced kid must be terrifying for a frontrunner.

The runner-up at the Valero was Spieth’s eighth top-10 in his last 10 worldwide starts, a stretch that includes three wins. Now No. 4 in the world, it seems like a matter of when, not if, Spieth will eventually ascend to the top spot. – Ryan Lavner
