Exclusive: Jordan Spieth On Making History Like Tiger Woods, His Dirty Car, and More

Sports Day DFW — When the PGA Tour season started in January, Jordan Spieth was writing tournament directors about sponsor’s exemptions and plotting potential Monday qualifiers to get into events.

He was a 19-year-old chasing the dream, having turned pro midway through his sophomore year at Texas despite having no status on any tour. For all intents and purposes, he was a college dropout searching for steady work, a gifted young actor with unlimited potential and no stage.

But Spieth nailed the audition, and after one of the best rookie seasons ever, he is living the dream.

SportsDay’s Texas Sports Personality of the Year knocked the cover off the dimpled orb, soaring from No. 810 in the World Ranking to 22. The kid who gambled on himself to play his way on Tour became the first player since Tiger Woods to start the year with no status and reach the season-ending Tour Championship (where he tied for second).

“I had a plan,” Spieth said. “I guess the plan got exceeded.”
