2015 Valero Texas Open: Round 3

2015 Valero Texas Open

Jordan Spieth in Contention, Eyes Second Straight Victory

There appears to be no slowing down for Jordan Spieth.

Two weeks after a dramatic playoff victory at the Valspar Championship, Spieth is again in the mix in his home state at the Valero Texas Open. The 21-year-old has opened with rounds of 71 and 69, and at 4 under he shares fourth place, two shots behind Jimmy Walker.

Spieth continues a torrid start to his season, as this week could mark his fifth straight top-20 finish and sixth such result in seven starts this year. He has benefited from a favorable draw at TPC San Antonio, avoiding the gusty winds faced by the early wave Thursday and making the most of relatively calm conditions in the second round.

"It played completely different today," Spieth said. "With the wind the other direction and not blowing much, it was very gettable. ... Today was definitely a day to shoot a lower score."

Spieth's 3-under 69 included five birdies, and it continued a favorable trend for him on the AT&T Oaks Course. After playing his first six competitive rounds in 7 over, Spieth is now 8 under across his last six rounds, having finished alone in 10th place a year ago.
