Presidents Cup: Jordan Spieth Stays Grounded

USA Today â€” The text message was short, simple and succinct.
"Dude, you've got to pick this guy," was the cyberspace advice Phil Mickelson sent to U.S. Presidents Cup captain Fred Couples on the final day of the Deutsche Bank Championship in September. The guy in question was Jordan Spieth, the 20-year-old dazzling rookie who caught Mickelson's eye when the two played together the final 18 holes of the Deutsche Bank, especially after Spieth finished birdie-birdie-birdie-eagle to wind up in a tie for fourth in the second FedExCup Playoffs event.
Two days later Couples picked Spieth and Webb Simpson as his two captain's picks for the 10th Presidents Cup, which begins today at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio. It wasn't as if Couples was caught unawares. No one in golf was.
Spieth, a high school and college star didn't come out of nowhere, after all. Though it might have seemed that way in 2013.
